Marching band brings home first place trophy, gears up to Trans World Dome contest
The Cape Girardeau Central High School Marching Tigers attended the 30th annual Washington Marching Festival in Washington, Mo., and brought home the first-place trophy in the class B division.
The band's point score was 78.9, which was almost 5.5 points ahead of the second-place winner.
In addition to the division first-place award, the band was judged best in the categories for music, marching and maneuvering, and visual general effect. The band was awarded second place for percussion.
The Marching Tigers have placed first in their division for the past three years at the competition.
The 110 students in the band will compete in two competitions Saturday. They will compete at Francis Howell High School in St. Louis in the morning and then travel to Park Hills for an evening competition.
The band will also be participating in the 27th annual Greater St. Louis Marching Band Festival Oct. 24 at the Trans World Dome. The performance is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
A special performance at 9 p.m. wil be presented by the Southeast Missouri State University Golden Eagles Band.
In all, 48 high school bands from Missouri and Illinois will compete from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the St. Louis event.
