This week the Southeast Missourian asked, "What do you think of the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association's decision to drop First Baptist Church from membership because it ordained women as deacons?"

"My thoughts on the issue itself -- as far as women being ordained -- I just feel like God can use anybody. It's not the messenger it's the message."

"If they go according to the Bible, in the Bible it says that women are not supposed to be heads of the church as such. At this point in time I assume I would agree with them the way they did it."

"I certainly don't agree with it. I don't see that they should make any distinction there. I would suspect that women can do as good a job as men. I'm a Baptist myself and I don't agree with the local association dropping the Baptist church here for that. That doesn't make sense to me."
