Area churches and the Cape Girardeau health-care community want to make sure that congregations are healthy both in spirit and body.

The parish nursing program promotes ministry opportunities while helping promote health and wellness. Area church leaders and health-care professionals can attend a seminar Oct. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at New Life World Outreach Center in Cape Girardeau.

The program includes an explanation of the program by Alvyne Rethemeyer, a nurse and director of parish nursing programs in St. Louis.

Other speakers will discuss the role of parish nurses and answer questions about the program. Speakers include Karen Mustoe of Cape Girardeau, who has worked with the program in the St. Louis area; Pinckney Love, a pastor; Laurie Hill, a nurse and member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau; Pam Roche, nurse and member of Sedgewickville United Methodist Church; and Jeri Palmer, parish nurse coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University.

Registration deadline for the seminar is Oct. 21. Cost is $10.

The seminar is sponsored by the College of Nursing and the College of Health and Human Services at Southeast Missouri State University, St. Francis Medical Center and Southeast Missouri Hospital.
