MINER -- A Malden man was killed Saturday morning in a two-car accident on Interstate 55 at Miner.

Vernon Bonham, 76, was pronounced dead at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston after the vehicle in which he was riding struck the rear end of a vehicle driven by Thomas Wilson, 80, of St. Louis.

Bonham's car, driven by Alta Rader, 79, of Risco, struck the Wilson vehicle as the Wilson vehicle tried to cross the median on a pathway used for emergency vehicles.

Rader, Wilson and a passenger in Wilson's car, Ellis Wilson, 72, also of St. Louis, received serious injuries and were transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Bonham was the 79th fatality in Troop E this year.

The 80th fatality in Troop E also occurred Saturday. The accident happened in Wayne County. The highway patrol is not releasing any information on the accident pending the notification of next of kin.
