Herb Jones and Dr. Jennie Cooper have received the annual Faculty-Staff Recognition Awards at Southeast Missouri State University.

Jones, area coordinator in the office of residence life, received the Outstanding Staff Recognition Award. Cooper, a professor of English, has been named the Faculty Recognition Award recipient.

The awards were presented at the recent Homecoming Recognition Dinner.

Jones was nominated for the award by members of Sigma Sigma Sigma and Alpha Chi Omega.

Jones, a native of Decatur, Ill., came to Southeast in September 1997. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Sangamon State University and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Illinois.

He serves on the Greek-Towers Renovations Committee, the Student Life Committee and the Student Affairs Professional Development Committee.

The Towers South Hall Council nominated Cooper for her award.

Cooper came to Southeast as a 17-year-old freshman in 1947 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English in 1953. In 1963, she received a master's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a doctorate of philosophy in 1972 from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

After working for 10 years as a journalist, Cooper began her teaching career at Southeast in 1963. Since then, she has taught a literature course for college-bound black students for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and worked with the Missouri London Program. She also has taught at the University of Mexico in Mexico City and the University of Mazatlan in Mexico.
