Cape Girardeau downtown businessman Charles Hutson has been elected chairman of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

Hutson, who owns Hutson's Furniture, graduated from Southeast in 1960 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology.

Hutson replaces T. Ronald Hahs as chairman. Hahs has an insurance business.

Dale Meier will continue as vice chairman of the foundation board. He is a partner in Grant Cooper & Associates, an executive search firm headquartered in Creve Coeur.

Meier has two degrees from Southeast. He received an undergraduate business degree from Southeast in 1964. In 1969, he received a master of arts degree in educational administration and counseling.

Dr. Ken Dobbins, Southeast's executive vice president, serves as foundation treasurer. Susan Burton of the university's fund-raising advancement office serves as secretary.

The foundation officers serve two-year terms. The new terms begin Jan. 1.

The officers were elected at a recent foundation board meeting.

Wayne Davenport, vice president of university advancement and the foundation's executive director, announced the new officers.

Four new board members also were elected. They are Steve Taylor, NationsBank community bank president for Cape Girardeau and Jackson; Ernie Eudy, owner of Horizon Manufacturing in Cape Girardeau; Jerry Zimmer of Zimmer Broadcasting; and Brad Bedell, vice president of Health Facilities Management Corp. in Sikeston.

Board members serve one-year terms. The entire board has 48 members.
