New air quality equipment will be installed at Associated Electric Cooperative's New Madrid Power Plant.

The selective catalytic reduction system will reduce nitrogen oxides emissions from the plant by 93 percent. The new project will be AECI's cornerstone for achieving compliance with the environmental Protection Agency's Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.

The pollution control project has been awarded as a joint venture to Black & Veatch, headquartered in Kansas City, and J.S. Alberici Construction, headquartered at St. Louis.

AECI of Springfield, Mo., provides wholesale power to six regional and 51 local electric cooperatives in Missouri, Oklahoma and Iowa.
