Students in grades 6-12 are invited to enter the Short Story Contest being sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

The winning entries will be published in the Southeast Missourian.

The stories must be based on one of three pictures and captions that can be obtained at the library.

Stories should be between 500 and 1,000 words in length and must be either typed or printed.

The entrant's name should be on each page of the story. The names will be removed and numbers will be assigned prior to judging.

Judges are Betty Martin, director of the Cape Girardeau Public Library; Marilyn Hutchings, an English instructor at Southeast Missouri State University; and Sam Blackwell, a staff writer for the Southeast Missourian.

The deadline for submitting stories is 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998.
