BESHEARS QUITS DELTA SCHOOL POST

DELTA -- Delta school administrator Larry Beshears resigned from his position as superintendent during the regular Board of Education meeting March 13.

Board members accepted the resignation and relieved Beshears of his duties. He had been superintendent of the district since 1990.

"We went ahead and paid him until the end of the fiscal year, but he was relieved of his duties effective March 14," said school board member Keith Cook.

He would not comment on the reasons, if any, given by Beshears when he resigned.

Beshears said he did not provide the board members with any reasons for his resignation. He would not comment further on the resignation, but said he is currently looking for positions in other districts.

School board president Aaron Helderman would not comment other than to confirm the resignation and to express gratitude for Beshears' service to the school district.

"He did an excellent job and the district was better off for his service," Helderman said.

Retired Puxico schools Superintendent William Pogue has been named interim superintendent through the end of the school year. Pogue was out of the office and unavailable for comment.

As Delta superintendent, Beshears was instrumental in getting funding to repair deteriorating facilities within the district.

In April 1993, Delta voters passed a $1.05 million school bond issue strongly promoted by Beshears. A new high school facility was built and several buildings within the district were repaired with funding from the bond issue.
