The university relations office at Southeast Missouri State University recently won eight awards in the 1996 Addy Awards and the 12th annual Admissions Advertising Awards competition. The university relations office at Southeast Missouri State University recently won eight awards in the 1996 Addy Awards and the 12th annual Admissions Advertising Awards competition.

The publications office was honored in the Addy competition with a "Citation of Excellence" in the category of "direct marketing" for the "Search Piece," the first in a series of three publications, which together comprise the University's direct mail recruitment initiative. The piece is sent to all prospective students who inquire about Southeast. Diane Sides, assistant director of university relations, served as editor for the piece. Also contributing to the winning entry were Wade Walker, coordinator of publications/graphic design, Michael Grace, university photographer, and Kathleen Butler, proofreader.

The publications office received a second "Citation of Excellence" for the Family Weekend logo. Wade Walker developed the logo and accepted the award. Family Weekend is an annual activity in which families of students are invited to the Southeast campus.

Several units in the university relations office have been honored with Admissions Advertising Awards.

The publications office received a "gold" award in the category of "publication/internal" for the Strategic Plan booklet; a "merit" award in the category of "publication/external" for the "Information Piece," and a "merit" award in the category of "total public relations program" for the "Family Weekend Series." Sides served as editor of these publications. Also contributing were Walker, Grace and Butler.

Jim Biundo, assistant to the president for university relations, and David Andrews, coordinator of video services, received a "silver" award in the category of "television advertising/series" for the "Heartland's Best Series," a series of television ads which aired in conjunction with KFVS-TV's annual "Heartland's Best" promotion. "Heartland's Best" each spring recognizes the region's high school valedictorians in a series of television spots.

Biundo, in conjunction with the Southeast PM campus committee, won a "bronze" award in "radio advertising/series" for radio ads developed to promote the program. The spots aired on the Zimmer Broadcasting Network throughout Southeast Missouri. Southeast PM is a program designed to allow students to earn degrees solely by taking night classes.

In addition, the news bureau won a "merit" award in the category of "publication/internal" for the This Week On Campus newsletter. Ann Hayes, news bureau director, edits the newsletter. Also contributing to this award were Doug Downs, student writer; Mary Peters, graduate assistant; Barb Kinsey, assistant, Grace and Butler.
