CAPE MAN DIES AFTER SHOT WHILE HUNTING COYOTE

An accidental shooting claimed the life of a Cape Girardeau man late Thursday, authorities said.

Gary Brady, 33, bled to death after being shot in the leg at about 11:15 p.m., authorities said.

He and his brother, Owen Brady, 42, were reportedly hunting a coyote on their sister's property on willow Bend Lane when the accident occurred.

David James, Cape Girardeau County sheriff's chief investigator, said Owen Brady was carrying a .300 Remington Magnum deer rifle with his finger on the trigger when he turned to give the gun to his brother. When Owen Brady swunt the gun toward his brother barrel first, the barrel bumped Gary Brady, causing the gun to fire, James said.

The bullet went through Brady's left hand and into his upper left thigh. Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Carpenter said the bullet cut the femoral artery, the major blood supplier to the lower body.

Carpenter declared Brady dead at St. Francis Medical Center. he said the family attempted to staunch the blood flow and took Brady to the hospital by private vehicle.

Carpenter is scheduled to perforn an autopsy today. he has ruled the shooting accidental, but the autopsy will be a way to confirm that.
