Flath joins the Army

Eric Flath of Glen Allen has joined the U.S. Army. He will receive training in the job specialty of his choice, medium helicopter repairer.

Flath will graduate from Woodland High School in May 1998. He will take basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and advanced training at Fort Eustis, Va. He reports for duty June 15, 1998.

He is the son of Ms. Phyllis Cook of Marble Hill and the grandson of Clifford and Shirley Flath of Glen Allen.

Burkart trains in infantry

Army Pvt. Cody J. Burkart has entered basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During training, he will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, map reading, tactics, military customs and courtesies and first aid. He will develop basic combat skills and experience using various weapons available to the infantry soldier.

Burkart is the son of Chuck and Bonnie Burkart of Cape Girardeau and he is a 1997 graudate of Jackson High School.

Seabaugh reports for duty

Navy Seaman Leslie D. Seabaugh has recently reported for duty at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

She is the daughter of John and Jennifer Seabaugh of Jackson. Seabugh is a 1993 graduate of Jackson High School and she joined the Navy in September 1996.

Hargraves at midway point

Navy constructionman Jesse Hargraves is halfway through a seven-month deployment to Okinawa, Japan, with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven (NMCB7), home based in Gulfport, Miss.

He is the son of Randy and Linda Hargraves of Jackson and a 1993 graduate of Jackson High School. Hargraves joined the Navy in December 1993.

Turner assists in sea rescue

Navy Seaman Brett L. Turner, while on a six-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation, assisted in the rescue of two Iranian merchant seamen.

While on patrol in the Persian Gulf, lookouts aboard Turner's ship spotted the two men clinging to floating debris about 70 nautical miles off the coast of Bahrain. The Iranian seamen had been adrift for five days after their cargo ship sank in heavy seas.

USS Constellation sailors immediately launched a rescue boat to retrieve the two stranded sailors and search helicopter to search for any additional survivors.

Turner is a 1994 graduate of Jackson High School.

Keen graduates from training

Army National Guard Pvt. Charles T. Keen has graudated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood.

Keen is the son of Charles Keen and Bonnie Bollinger, both of Jackson.

Keen graduated from Jackson High School in 1996.

Medlin joins the Army

Ryan P. Medlin of Jackson has joined the U.S. Army. Medlin will receive training as a multi-channel transmission systems operator.

He is the son of Daniel and Myra Reisenbichler of Jackson.

Medlin's basic training will take place at Fort Jackson, S.C., and advanced training will be at Fort Gordon, Ga.

Tickets for Friday's varsity football Jamboree can be bought in advance at the Cape Girardeau Central High School athletic director's office.
