Winners have been announced in the fifth annual Cape BBQ Fest, held Aug. 22 and 23 in Arena Park. Winners have been announced in the fifth annual Cape BBQ Fest, held Aug. 22 and 23 in Arena Park.

The barbecue competition was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee, and 29 teams competed.

A panel of judges scored the meats in the areas of appearance; taste, aftertaste and doneness; and tenderness, juiciness and texture. They will look for lean meat with an emphasis on low fat.

Winners:

Hamburgers: First place, Mercantile Bank; second place, Ricky Rover Rooter Roasters; third place, Thorngate.

Beef Kebabs: First place, Davis Farms; second place, Thorngate; third place, Kohlfeld Smokehouse Gang.

Beef Filet Mignon: First place, Cape Electric Ribmen; second place, Thorngate; third place, Davis Farms.

Pork Ribs: First place, Capaha Bank; second place, Mercantile Bank; third place, Black Dog BBQ.

Pork Steak: First place, Black Dog BBQ; second place, Haman's Hog Wild BBQ; third place, Backwood's BBQ.

Pork Roast (Boston Butt): First place, Bluff City Sweet Loins; second place, Planet LDD; third place, Thorngate.
