Susan Leggett and John Cooley have joined Behavioral Healthcare Corp. Spirit of St. Louis Hospital at its Cape Girardeau Satellite.

BHC has purchased Spirit of St. Louis Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents, ages 3 to 18.

The Cape Girardeau Satellite has been in operation for three years. It has operated most recently by Joyce Griffin, who will be moved to Belleview, Ill., to staff a new satellite there.

Leggett has been in the field of professional counseling, psychotherapy and case consultation for 17 years. She has been affiliated with the Travelers/Aetna Medical Division at St. Louis, and the Family Counseling Center Adolescent Program in Cape Girardeau. She has received graduate and doctoral work at Southeast Missouri State University and Southern Illinois University.

Cooley, a professional counselor for five years, has a master's degree in psychological counseling at Southeast Missouri State University. He previously worked with the Community Counseling Center. The Satellite office performs on-site assessment and admissions to the hospital and provides aftercare treatment.

Teresa Compton of Cape Girardeau has joined Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Service, 2852 Independence, as assistant director of nurses.

Compton, who has been in the health care field for more than six years, has Associate Degree in Nursing from Southeast Missouri State University, and is currently working on certification in gerontology.

She previously worked as health care planning coordinator at Chateau Health Center.

Dr. William K. Kapp of Orthopedic Associations of Southeast Missouri recently attended the Eighth Panther Sports Medicine Symposium in Pittsburgh.

The symposium provided an intensive program with anatomy and surgical demonstrations of concepts in knee surgery from a sports medicine program.

The program was sponsored by the Pittsburgh School of Medicine Center for Continuing Education.

Kapp is one of eight Orthopedic surgeons on staff at Orthopedic Associates.

Dr. Michael C. Trueblood of Orthopedic Associations of Southeast Missouri has received the Physician's Recognition Award for continuing medical education presented by the American Medical Association.

The AMA presents the award in recognition of physicians who voluntarily complete 60 credit-hours of continuing medical education in a three-year period to expand their medical knowledge and keep up to date in their medical specialties.

Trueblood is one of eight Orthopedic surgeons on staff at Orthopedic Associates.

Loyd and Jayne Ervin of Jayson Jewelers, 115 Themis St., recently attended the 91st annual convention of the Missouri Jewelers and Watchmakers Association Inc., which was held at the Radisson Hotel in St. Louis.

"What Jewelers Need to Know About the Internet" and "On-Line with the Jewelry Industry" were among topics discussed during the three-day convention.

Bob Etherton, an investment representative with Edward Jones of Cape Girardeau, was one of 43 Jones representatives to attend a two-day workshop on how investment products from Hartford Life Insurance Cos. can help clients.

The workshop, sponsored by Hartford Life, headquartered at Simsbury, Conn., was designed to familiarize investment representatives on a variety of insurance opportunities available, including Hartford's newest product, retail mutual funds.

Etherton, whose office is at 215 N. Sprigg, offers Hartford products.

Kevin J. Essner, vice president of Capaha Bank, Tamms, Ill., has been named chairman of the Illinois Bankers Association's Agricultural Lending School Board of Trustees by IBA president Robert Wallace.

As chairman, Essner will meet with the board to plan the school's curriculum and approve admissions to the school.

Essner, a Kelso, Mo., native, has been with Capaha Bank for five years an supervises all agricultural lending for the bank.

Trisha Wischmann, of Trisha's Bed & Breakfast, Tea Room & Gifts, 203 Bellevue, Jackson, recently attended the annual education conference of the Beds & Breakfast Inns of Missouri at Platte City.

Internet marketing, public relations, industry trends, special breakfast ides and landscaping were among topics discussed during the two-may session.

Cheryl Walter, owner of Mailboxes and Parcel Depot, 2148 Broadway, and Renee Robinson, an employee there, recently attended the Associated Mail and Parcel Centers Convention and Trade Show, held at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tenn.

A number of topics were addressed during seminars and workshops. Frederick W. Smith, chairman and chief officer of Federal Express, was keynote speaker, discussing the topic, "Changing the Face of Global Trade."

Walter opened Mailboxes and Parcel Depot in July 1995. The company provides a variety of packing, shipping and communications services.

Sandy Quigley of Gulliver's Travel Agency recently attended an educational tour to Las Vegas.

While there, Quigley toured a variety of hotels and attended the show, "Legends in Concert," at Imperial Palace.

Quigley, who has been in the travel industry for three years and at Gulliver's Travel since September, is a graduate of the Disney College of Knowledge, a travel agent training program. She has also attended Tams, a seminar on agency accounting and financial record keeping.

Jeff Edgar has been named plant manager for Emerson Electric at Kennett.

Edgar, who has served as interim manager at the plant since November, was "officially" named plant manager last month.

He succeeds John Sankovitch, who was promoted to Emerson's St. Louis headquarters.

Edgar has been at the Kennett facility since 1989. He is a graduate of UM-Rolla.
