GALLERY 100 HOSTS JURIED ART EXHIBIT

The Southeast Missouri Regional Juried Art Show will open Friday and continue through February at Gallery 100.

Paintings, drawings and sculpture by artists living within a 75-mile radius of Cape Girardeau will be on display.

The opening reception and awards ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Gallery, 1707 Mt. Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.

Artists from Cape Girardeau, Perryville, Sikeston, Caruthersville, Farmington, Chaffee and Dexter have submitted artwork. Also represented will be artists from Jacob, Prairie Du Rocher and Marion in Illinois.

Thirty-one of the works have been selected for display and the artists whose work is chosen will be eligible for $350 in cash prizes and ribbons.

The contributions range from a lace and lufa-sponge work called "The Bride" by Jean Chase Joy of Perryville to a wood carving of a raccoon by August Birk of Cape Girardeau.

The juror for the show is Dr. Edwin Smith, an art professor at Southeast Missouri State University for the past 23 years. He is a sculptor who works in wood and fabricated metal and has jurored several national and international exhibitions.

The city of Altenberg recently commissioned Smith to create a sculpture installed in the Altenberg City Park.

The exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 3.

The gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
