The program selects high school seniors on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in both community and school activities.

Jones, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, is one of 2,600 candidates in the United States. Final selections will be made in mid-April by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars.

Jones is the daughter of Kenneth A. and Carol A. Jones.
