They will each tell a story about something she taught them or a lesson learned at the school, Lewis said. Anyone who knew May Greene, taught with her or was a former student also is invited to attend the assembly and reception. Students will dance around a may pole and the jump rope team will perform at the fourth annual assembly.

May Greene was born May 7, 1861, in Marble Hill. She taught in Cape Girardeau for 53 years before retiring in 1932. She served as principal of the Lorimier, Broadway and Washington schools and taught at least once in first through eighth grades.

Greene died April 13, 1948.

If you were a student of May Greene's or would like more information, call Mary Ann Lewis at the school at 335-5797.
