Students at L.J. Schultz Middle School will present two encore performances of "The Wizard of Oz" Wednesday.

The musical will be performed at 9:15 a.m. and at 7:30 p.m. at the Southeast Missouri State University Center Ballroom. Admission at both performances is free and open to the public.

Seventh-graders have rehearsed the classic tale of Dorothy's journey through the land of Oz for more than two months. They also constructed sets and helped design costumes. Music teacher Mike Dumey directs the play. Students have had help from other Schultz teachers and parents.

"It's the complete musical from the Munchkins to the cowardly lion. It's wonderful," said Trudy Brandt, a parent who is helping.

The performance lasts about 1 hour and 35 minutes.

Students performed the musical three times last week, May 20, 21 and 22, at the school's library, which seats about 200 people. Dumey had numerous requests for an encore performance by people who were unable to attend the play last week. The ballroom seats about 500.

For information, call Dumey at the school, 334-6281.
