Jackson R-2 Schools

Junior high and high school students attending Jackson R-2 Public Schools can register for classes and receive schedules today, Wednesday and Thursday. Seniors registered Monday.

All high school students should register in the high school cafeteria from 8 a.m until noon.

Ninth-grade students can register from 8-11 a.m. Thursday and eight-grade students should arrive between 1 and 3 p.m. Thursday.

During the registration, all students will receive class schedules, locker assignments and can purchase yearbooks and activity tickets.

High school yearbooks cost $20 and junior high school yearbooks are $10. High school activity tickets are $8. Activity tickets sold to the students will allow them to attend all home boys' and girls' varsity and junior varsity athletic events.

Yearbook photos should be taken by Don Bess Studio. All students must have their picture taken for the yearbook during the enrollment. Only those students wishing to purchase pictures must pay the $8.50 charge before the pictures are taken.

Juniors can register today and will be required to take a quick hearing test. All sophomores should register on Wednesday and will be required to take a vision test. A nurse also will be working with the junior high students doing tests on vision, hearing, taking blood pressure and checking height and weight.

All new students to the district should meet with the counselors to register. Address changes should be made during registration. At the time of enrollment, new students must be accompanied by their parent or guardian and must have their immunization records and Social Security card with them.

Elementary school enrollment for new students in grades one through three will be Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. until noon at Orchard Elementary School on Orchard Drive. Fourth- and fifth-grade students should report to West Lane Elementary School at the same times.

New students who will be attending either the city schools or outlying elementary schools should enroll. Elementary students who were already attending R-2 schools last year are already enrolled and need not report until the opening of school on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996.

Kindergarten enrollment and screening will be conducted Aug. 12 and 13 at the Primary Annex. All students who will meet kindergarten eligibility but have not enrolled for the 1996-97 school year should make an appointment for screening. To schedule an appointment, call the office at 243-9553.

To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old prior to July 1, 1996. Kindergarten children should have a physical examination and all children should be immunized for diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, rubella, mumps, measles and rubeola. Enrollment will be from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Elementary students and parents are invited to an open house Aug. 20 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Primary Annex and Orchard Elementary Schools. Parents and children can meet teachers and visit classrooms. Student classroom assignments will not be posted prior to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 and will not be given out over the telephone. West Lane Elementary will have a Back to School Night Aug. 20 at 6:30.

Central High School

Central High School will hold orientation sessions Aug. 20 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in Room 54 at the high school.

All transfer students and sophomores should attend, but students can choose either session.

Members of the Student Senate will lead tours through the building, discuss extracurricular activities and meet counselors. Staff members also will be available to answer questions.

Students who are new to the district and will enroll at the high school should call the office at 335-8228 during Aug. 12-16 to make an appointment for registration. Classes begin Aug. 26 at 7:45 a.m.

Chaffee High School

Chaffee Junior-Senior High School will hold registration Monday through Aug. 15 for students in grades 7-12 who are new to the district.

New students should report to Room 1 at the high school between 1-3 p.m. Monday for registration. All students can pick up schedules, make changes, rent lockers and register vehicles during registration.

Seniors can register Monday from 9-11 a.m. and juniors from 1-3 p.m. Sophomores should register Tuesday between 9-11 a.m. and freshmen from 1-3 p.m. Seventh- and eighth-grade students should report on Thursday for registration. The eighth grade will enroll from 9-11 a.m. Seventh-grade students will receive orientation at 1:30 p.m.

Kelly High School

Kelly Public Schools will hold an open house Aug. 20 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The open house will begin at the high school gymnasium with a welcome by Superintendent Ron McSorley. Staff members will be introduced by building principals.

The open house is planned for the evening before classes start so that parents and students can visit the schools before classes begin. The school nurse also will be available to answer questions about student medication.
