Jill Lowes of Jackson is the recipient of a John W. Carr Scholarship from Murray State University in Murray, Ky.

Lowes is a 1996 graduate of Jackson High School and plans to major in communications. She is the daughter of Ron A. and Marilyn K. Lowes.

Named after Murray State's first president, the Carr Scholarship is awarded to a student who has shown superior leadership skills throughout high school. The scholarship is renewable for each year provided specific academic requirements are met.
