Janah Jateff and Pam Brown are looking for good, honest volunteers.
Jateff, organizer of Project CHARLIE in Cape Girardeau, said that she and Brown are looking for at least four more adult volunteers to do classroom Project CHARLIE activities with second- and fourth-grade children during the upcoming school year.
"Everything is paid for and all the lesson plans are already made up," said Jateff. "All we need is a donation of their time."
Jateff said that she and Brown, the organizer of Jackson's Project CHARLIE, are looking for people who are interested in teaching "positive self esteem, how to handle peer pressure, decision-making abilities, and drug and alcohol education" to second and fourth graders one day a week.
Once Jateff and Brown find volunteers for the program, the volunteers will be asked to attend a training session on Aug. 31 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
"After the training session," said Jateff, "all we need for them to do is come one day a week and work with the kids." Jateff said volunteers will work with the fourth graders until Christmas and with the second graders during the second half of the school year.
Teachers, said Jateff, would work with the volunteer's schedule to find a day to volunteer that is acceptable for them. The Excelsior Optimist Club raised enough money in their "Casual Day" fundraiser to include all Cape Girardeau schools in Project CHARLIE.
Interested volunteers should either Jateff at 651-4103 or Brown. 243-2303.
