MCBRIDE -- A 60-year-old Gilster-Mary Lee truck driver was killed Tuesday after his truck was struck by a train.

According to a report from the Perry County Sheriff's Department, a Gilster-Mary Lee tractor-trailer tried to cross the Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe tracks in McBride. The truck was struck by a southbound train at the crossing.

The truck stopped about 65 feet south of the point of impact.

The driver, who isn't being identified pending notification of next-of-kin, had to be extricated by firefighters. He later died of injuries sustained in the accident. None of the workers on the train were injured.

The McBride crossing is equipped with a stop sign and railroad crossing symbol but has no lights or bell.
