Airman graduates basic training

Air Force Airman Lisa M. Lettau has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Lettau is the daughter of Manon D. Gentry of Columbia, Ill., and David Chagolla of St. Louis, Mo.

Her husband, Paul, is the son of Ulrich H. Lettau of Belleville, Ill. and Rebel R. Lettau of Marble Hill, Mo.

Neal graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Neal X. Joiner has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Joiner is the son of Nealy A. and Patti S. Joiner of Marble Hill.

He is a 1995 graduate of Meadow Heights Regional High School in Patton.

Fuller receives Army Achievement Medal

Army Sgt. John C. Fuller has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal.

The medal is awarded to soldiers for meritorious service, acts of courage, or other outstanding accomplishments.

Fuller is a heavy equipment operator with the 5th Engineer Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

He is the son of Celia M. McNew of Lake Wappapello and stepson of James McNew of Poplar Bluff.

His wife, Christy, is the daughter of Danny and Barbra Stucker of Jackson.

Chaudoin joins the Army

James D. Chaudoin of Millersville, Mo., has joined the U.S. Army. He will receive training as a food service specialist.

Pvt. Chaudoin will take basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

He is the son of Mr. James and Mrs. Charlotte Chaudoin of Millersville.

Decker graduates from leadership training and evaluation

John F. Decker recently graduated from leadership traing and evaluation at the U.S. Army Cadet Command Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) advanced camp at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C.

The cadet is a student at Presbyterian College, Clinton, S.C.

Decker is the son of Carol A. Mackey of Pensacola, Fla. and retired Marine Corps Maj. Richard A. Decker of Jackson.

He is a 1993 graduate of Washington High School, Pensacola.

Lincoln reports for duty

Marine Staff Sgt. Bobby J. Lincoln, son of Hellen S. and Bobby J. Lincoln Sr. of Glen Allen recently reported for duty with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.

Lincoln's new assignment is an example of how Navy and Marine Corps men and women are assigned to ships, squadrons and shore commands around the world.

He joined the Marine Corps in November of 1995.

Morton deployed in the Mediterranean Sea

Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew M. Morton, son of Michael R. Morton of Jackson, has departed for a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked aboard the ships of the USS Saipan Amphibious Ready Group.

Morton is one of more than 2,000 Marines and sailors with the 24th MEU, who departed Norfolk, Va., aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan, the amphibious transport dock ship USS Austin and the dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall.

Equipped with the 24th MEU landing force, helicopters, Harrier attack jets, high-speed assault hovercraft, tanks, armored and amphibious assault vehicles and landing craft, the USS Saipan ARG provides theater commanders in the Mediterranean Sea a wide range of capabilities.

The 24th MEU can evacuate civilians, rescue downed pilots, conduct reconnaissance and serve as an initial landing force ashore.

Morton and his fellow Marines and Sailors spent last year training for a wide range of conventional and special operations they might be tasked with during deployment. As part of the preparations, USS Saipan ARG participated in a combined joint task exercise along the East Coast that involved more than 53,000 British and U.S. forces, the greatest U.S.-U.K. combined exercise since World War II.
