BUSINESS MEMO: SPARTECH ACHIEVES RECORD

Spartech Corp. announced record sales and earnings for the first quarter.

Bradley B. Buechler, Spartech president and chief executive officer, reported quarterly sales for the first three months of fiscal 1996 at $87.5 million, up 10 percent from the 79.3 million during the same quarter a year ago.

The company's net earnings of $3.8 million, or 16 cents for fully diluted shares, were up more than 21 percent from the $3.1 million, or 13 cents per share in 1995.

Spartech, headquartered in St. Louis, has two operations in Cape Girardeau -- Spartech Plastics at 2500 Spartech Drive and Spartech Compounding on Nash Road.
