The company has announced that funds were intact to build prototypes and started production of the six-passenger Vantage, a jet designed for corporate executives.

"We plan a rollout and test flight in October," said James O. Rice, chairman and chief executive of VisionAire. "We have 37 firm orders for the Vantage."

The plane, designed by Dick Rutan of Scaled Composites Inc., Mojave, Calif., will sell for $1.6 million.

The company expects to receive federal certification for the plane in 1998 and start delivering planes in 1999.

Ames was selected over Cape Girardeau for VisionAire's manufacturing facility last year. Ames and Cape Girardeau were narrowed from a list of more than 30 potential sites.
