MAILBOXES & PARCEL DEPOT OPENS

Mailboxes & Parcel Depot Inc., headquartered at Peoria, Ill., has opened a new facility in Cape Girardeau.

The new store provides a variety of services, including private postal mailbox rentals, professional packing and shipping of packages by all major carriers including UPS, Federal Express and Airborne.

The company, which also provides daily, weekly and monthly cellular car telephone rental, copying, faxing and other services, was scheduled to open today at 2148 Broadway.

Cheryl Walter is owner and operator of the local store.

"I'll also be providing secretarial services," said Walter, who added she will provide a design and creative service for flyers.

The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Mailboxes & Parcel Depot stores are licensed under a national trademark, said Robert Tilton, COMPANY CEO. "But, the stores are independently owned and operated."

The company has operations throughout five states, including Indiana and Illinois.

"We're currently looking at locations in Sikeston, Arnold and Columbia," Tilton said.

METAL CUTTERS OPENS ON ENTERPRISE

Metal Cutters opened recently at 803 Enterprise in Cape Girardeau.

Jeff Gentry and Dan Todt are owners of the new business, which does custom shape cutting, utilizing an INC Controlled Cutting Machine.

The machine has cutting capacities of 14 feet x 35 feet with material thicknesses up to 14-inch mild steel and 2-inch thick aluminum and stainless steel.

Metal Cutters can use customers' blueprints and cut one piece or thousands of pieces.

Gentry and Todt have more than 40 years combined experience in the steel fabrication and welding fields. Todt currently owns Southeast Fabricating Inc. Gentry is general manager of Metal Cutters.

HUMAN HEALTH CARE SETS OPEN HOUSE

Human Health Care Plans will hold an open house at its new Cape Girardeau office, 2137 William St., Wednesday, from 1 to 3 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 1 p.m.

Hair Force, a full-service beauty salon, founded almost a decade ago, is moving.

The salon, for men, women and children, has six operators and a manicurist, will open at 559 N. Spring Aug. 1.

"We've purchased a building there," said Rhonda Pobst, who opened the business at 1 N. Sprigg in 1986.

A special facility, "Kid's Kuts," was added to the Hair Force operation in October 1992, featuring a small carousel horse for young patrons to sit on while getting a haircut or perm.

CHRYSALIS ENTERPRISES OPENS IN JACKSON

Chrysalis Enterprises, a search program for financial aid for colleges, has opened at Jackson.

"Money is available for college education," said Bob Williamson, owner and operation of the service.

The service matches student applications to the "Financial Aid for College" database, which reveals information concerning scholarships, grants and awards available to college students.

Williamson's service includes a report on financial aid available and explains how and when to apply for award sources.

Chrysalis Enterprises offers 12 to 15 fund sources for an initial fee.

AZTAR PAVILION OPENS IN CARUTHERSVILLE

CARUTHERSVILLE -- The Casino Aztar's 46,000-square-foot Pavilion has opened in downtown Caruthersville.

Aztar, which operates a riverboat casino aboard the "City of Caruthersville" riverboat, held the grand opening of its land-based facility last weekend.

Two professional hockey players, Scott Brower and Mike Jackson, of the Memphis RiverKings, appeared in the Sidelines Sports Bar during the grand opening festivities, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Saturday and fireworks displays were held Saturday and Sunday.

The pavilion includes the 172-seat Sidelines Sports Bar, 268-seat Diamonds Restaurant, 40-seat Dealer's Choice Snack Bar and Memories Gift Shop.

K's MERCHANDISE BRINGS 100 JOBS

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- More than 100 jobs will be created when K's Merchandise moves into University Mall here this fall.

The Decatur-based K's will occupy about 80,000 square feet in space left vacant when Venture closed in 1993.

K's is a family-owned retailer that offers brand-name general merchandise.
