Don E. Osborne, of Osborne Office Equipment, 1413 Thomas Drive, Cape Girardeau, has received the "outstanding dealer" award, for selling digital duplicators from Ricoh Corp.

Osborne is the No. 1 dealer in the nation.

Jim Ivy, senior vice president of Ricoh Corp., presented the award during a recent convention at Palm Springs, Calif.

Five-year employees at the Cape Girardeau Missouri Veterans Home were recognized during a recent employee-recognition banquet held at the Veteran Home.

Dr. Sam McVay, home administrator, presented the recognition mementos. Dr. Bill G. Gooch, professor and coordinator of graduates studies in workforce education and development at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, was guest speaker.

The five-year employees joined the Veterans Home during the spring and summer of 1990, when the 150-bed facility started admitting resident veterans. They include:

Maria Robbins, director of nursing; Art Cox, plant maintenance engineer; Sharlie Sarakas, accountant; Dennis Todd, head of purchasing and receiving; Sue Ellyn Miller, administrative assistant; Dottie Retherford, dining room supervisor; and Nancy Holmes, head of physical therapy department.

Others were: Reba Edwards, nurse; Dick Myer, pharmacy assistant; Bob McLemore, purchasing and receiving; Roger Cotner, maintenance; Rhonda Phelps, medical technician; and nursing assistants Vivian Duckett, Judy James, Tom Troutman and Karon Schmidt; and food service workers Carolyn Dodds, Rebecca Lewis and Patsy Gibson.

Kimberly K. Monteith of Charleston has joined the Tip of Illinois Health Services Inc. staff as a medical social worker, at the Cairo Tip office.

Monteith attended Southwest Baptist University and received a bachelor of science degree in social work from Southeast Missouri State University.

Beverly Smart of Cape Girardeau has been named administrator at Cape Christian School, 1855 Perryville Road.

Smart, a native of Lynn, Ark., is a graduate of Arkansas State University at Jonesboro, and has been affiliated with Cape Christian School more than eight years, serving as Parent-Teacher fellowship president, and as a member of the school board two years.

Chap Arnold of Chap Arnold Insurance Agency of Scott City has been elected to the Mendota Insurance Co.'s advisory council.

The advisory group provides key independent insurance agents the opportunity to give input to Mendota about ways to improve its products and services to benefit the insurance-buying public.

Mary and Eric Young, owners of Tans-R-Us and Tan America, have been selected to participate in the Wolff System Sun for Life salon program.

Customers will have access to a variety of Wolff System educational materials, including a newsletter for indoor tanners that details recent research on the benefits of light.

Salon staff will participate in ongoing educational programs offered by Wolff Systems. The Wolff company is a leader in indoor tanning equipment and technology.

U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau, recently received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's "Spirit of Enterprise" Award, presented to members of Congress who promote small business and free enterprise.

"It is an honor to accept this award," Emerson said. "I have always been a strong advocate of less taxes and regulation and economic growth and job creation."
