CARBONDALE -- The 12th annual choral clinic and reading session will kick off the 1995 program year for the Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. The event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. a the First Christian Church in Carbondale.

John Stewart, choral conductor at Washington University, will introduce a variety of new music chosen to meet the needs of different choirs. He will also lead the group in singing the selections.

Stewart is an associate professor of music and head of the voice program. He co-directs the opera workshop and chamber choir at Washington University. For 20 years, he sang with many of the leading opera companies and orchestras in the U.S. and Europe. In 1990, he directed the Yale Glee Club in its month-long tour in Europe.

A display of music from Shattinger Music Company in St. Louis will be available for browsing both before and after the clinic.

The SI Chapter of the Organ Guild has members from Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois and western Kentucky. Anyone who plays the organ or likes organ music is welcomed to join.

All programs are free and open to the public.
