Cape Central students Bryn McDougall, a junior, and Carrie Beth Smith, a senior, placed first in a cross-examination debate in the district speech and debate tournament at Southeast Missouri State University. They will compete at the state tournament in Columbia April 21-22.

Twenty four schools competed in the tournament. The topic was "Resolve: That the United States government should substantially strengthen regulation of immigration to the United States."

Smith will also compete in radio speaking at the April state tournament after placing second at the district level in that event. She is a disc jockey on AM-1170.

McDougall is the daughter of Gerald and Karen McDougall and Smith is the daughter of Steve and Suzi Smith.
