FIRST MULKEY-WHITE SCHOLARSHIP TO SHUPP

Sandra Shupp was honored at the River Heritage Museum as the first recipient of the Mulkey-White Historic Preservation scholarship.

Shupp is a junior historic preservation major who transferred to Southeast Missouri State from New York. Last year she served as president of the Historic Preservation Association.

To qualify for the scholarship, she had to be a second-year preservation major and maintain a 3.0 grade-point average. Southeast Missouri State is one of four institutions nationally to offer a bachelor's degree in preservation.

The scholarship was established five years ago by Patty Mulkey and Bob White. Mulkey is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State and was a teacher for 30 years at various schools in Southeast Missouri. She has been involved in several historic preservation ventures and organizations.

White has been a member of the history department at Southeast Missouri State for 29 years and served as director of the Center for Regional History for eight years and on the Missouri task force for local records. He was also on several historical boards, including the city's preservation commission. White has authored several books and articles pertaining to local history.
