OTAHKI GIRL SCOUT COUNCIL INSTALLS GOODIN AS PRESIDENT

The Otahki Girl Scout Council installed new officers and members at its recent annual meeting. The council, a member of the largest volunteer all-girl organization, serves more than 2,400 girls in 11 area counties.

Those installed were: Carolyn Goodin, president; Rick Etherington and Joyce Miller, vice presidents; Grace Hoover, secretary; Tom Martin, treasurer; and Brenda Colon, Henry Holyfield, Sharon Stinson, Jane Harte, Jean Bollinger, Linda Dillman, Susan Hase, Sally Elrod, Robert King, Glendella May and SueAnn Strom, members-at-large.

Peggy Barringer, Cheryl Amos, Terri Tomlin and Debbie Simmons were elected to the council's nominating committee.

At the council's recent volunteer appreciation dinner, Shirley Beggs of Cape Girardeau received the group's first Thanks Badge II. Beggs was council president for the past five years.

Vicky Keller of Cape Girardeau, Patsy Chandler of Marble Hill and JoAnn Clements of Perryville were awarded the Thanks Badge for outstanding service.

Marty Sadler of Anna, Ill., and Linda Welter of Chaffee received the Honor Pin.

Appreciation Pin recipients were: Patty Hamlin, Sheila Kirkpatrick, Kathie Brennan, Letricia Goehman, Lynn Geske, Doris McBryde, Shelley Needham and Louise Brewer.

Other volunteers and Girl Scouts honored were: council cookie coordinators Karen Dodds of Cape Girardeau and Doris McBryde of Jackson; QSP subscription chair Laura Bennett; and top three cookie sellers Emilie Statler of Jackson, Amanda Gibson of Cairo, Ill., and Jessica Braeuner of Oak Ridge.

Award-winning organizations were: Juliette Low Award, Cape Service Unit; Leona Bunch Award, Perryville Service Unit; Community Awareness Award, Victory 431 Order of Eastern Star of Marble Hill, city of Jackson and American Legion of Perryville.

Several outstanding troop leaders and volunteers were honored, too.

A Girl Scout flag and flag stand were presented to the family of Mary Fisher, a longtime volunteer from the Alexander County, Illinois, area, who died earlier this year.
