Physicians who voluntarily complete 150 credit-hours of continuing medical education courses in a three-year period earn the award, which is presented by the Missouri State Medical Association and the American Medical Association.

The purpose of the award is to recognize physicians who continually expand their field of medical knowledge. It rewards activities that serve to maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public and the profession.
