Erin Riches of Cape Girardeau recently accepted a Walter D. Bellengrath Scholarship to attend Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., this fall. It is a full four-year scholarship.

She was selected as one of 24 finalists from a poll of more than 600 applicants nationwide.

Riches is a senior at Central High School, where she is editor-in-chief of The Tiger, Central's newspaper. She also worked as a sports writer for the Southeast Missourian last summer.

She was selected first alternate for a sports-writing scholarship awarded by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

Riches is the daughter of Patricia Riches of Cape Girardeau and Geoffrey Riches of Delray Beach, Fla.
