Two people have died in weekend traffic accidents in Southeast Missouri, including a 9-year-old Dunklin County girl killed when a four-wheeler overturned as she was attempting to jump a sand ramp Saturday.

A Missouri Highway Patrol spokesman said Stephanie Zimmerman, daughter of Wade and Sheila Zimmerman of the Malden area, was dead on arrival at a Dexter hospital.

The accident occurred about 11 a.m. Saturday on private property about three miles west of Malden.

Authorities said the four-wheeler overturned on the girl.

In a second fatal accident Saturday, a 23-year-old St. Louis man was killed when he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer truck on U.S. 67 north of the Poplar Bluff city limits.

The patrol spokesman said Donald Duion was walking in the roadway when he was struck by the vehicle driven by Johnny Atwell, 29, of Poplar Bluff.

Five traffic fatalities had been reported during the Memorial Day holiday weekend by the Missouri State Patrol by late Saturday.

James Pogue, 34, died in a two-vehicle accident near Ellington; Rusty Pipes of Milan, 20, died when his car ran off a county road and rolled over him near Milan in northern Missouri; and a Windfield man, Bryan Hackmann, 19, died in a two-vehicle accident in Lincoln County.
