Greg Hellwege of Cape Girardeau has received a scholastic athletic award at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.

To earn the award, a student must be a freshman and have attained a grade-point average of 3 or more.

Hellwege graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1994. He earned a baseball scholarship to William Jewell College.

His major is education. He was a member of the Central High state championship baseball team and the American Legion baseball team that played in regional competition in South Dakota.

He is the son of Don and Sue Hellwege of Cape Girardeau.
