The purpose of the award is to recognize physicians who are keeping up-to-date in their medical specialities and adding to their medical knowledge. It rewards activities that serve to maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public and the profession.

Since its founding in 1850, the Missouri State Medical Association has represented Missouri physicians to the public, media and government. MSMA offers assistance to further the field of medicine through an organized professional membership comprised of more than 6,300 physicians.
