The Southeast Missourian asked people what they thought about the area code change from 314 to 573 on Jan. 1, and its consequences.

"Well, the numbers don't seem to flow together but I guess it's just something we will have to get used to. I don't think it will have any effect once we get used to dialing 573."

"I don't feel like it is going to make a lot of difference in the way I live. I don't believe it's that much of a problem.

"I would like to keep it the same way. With 573 you're going to have to change all your business cards. It is going to effect more on business than on the personal level."
