A Cape Girardeau horse enthusiast's health is improving following a Saturday night accident near Pocahontas.

Tammy Kirkpatrick, 32, was riding a horse on County Road 532 just east of Pocahontas at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. According to Missouri Highway Patrol reports, David Green, 19, of Jackson was driving eastbound on the road when he noticed a group of riders. He swerved to avoid them but struck Kirkpatrick's horse.

Richard Kirkpatrick, Tammy's husband, said his wife hit the windshield of Green's truck. She sustained serious head injuries and was in a coma for three days at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

On Wednesday, she was moved from intensive care to a private room at the hospital.

Richard Kirkpatrick said his wife was making a lot of improvement and may be home in three or four days.

The Highway Patrol found no one at fault in the accident.
