FREE VISION SCREENINGS TO BE HELD AUG. 6

Children and adults can have their vision screened free of charge at the third annual All-American Eye Check Day Aug. 6 from noon to 4 at the Sears Optical Center.

Sears will donate $1 for every screening performed to support the programs of Prevent Blindness America, co-sponsor of the event with Sears Optical.

For children, the new Lea Symbols Test, developed for children as young as 2 1/2, will be used.

For adults, the Snellen chart (E-chart) will be used to measure sharpness of distance vision. The Near Vision Reader Card will be used to measure near vision acuity, particularly useful for older adults and baby boomers who are susceptible to the gradual loss of the ability to focus on near objects.

A vision screening is a first step in eye health. Further visual evaluations and examinations may be needed.
