It's here.

The fall fashion catalog featuring fresh faces of 61 local children modeling clothing at sites throughout Cape Girardeau County is being distributed to hundreds of thousands of customers across the country.

Customers of Children's Bazaar should receive their copies in the mail this weekend. The catalog is produced by Children's Apparel Services in Dallas, which provides copies of the catalog to children's stores like Children's Bazaar across the country. The same catalog is printed with different store names.

Local models were selected to wear clothing featured in the catalog during a model search conducted by Children's Bazaar. More than 800 applications were picked up. The models were selected by the staff of Children's Apparel Services. The children had to fit the sample clothing for the catalog.

The models were photographed standing outside Academic Auditorium, at the base of the Common Pleas Courthouse steps, the courtyard at Mollies Restaurant, Arena Park and the covered bridge at Burfordville. Many of the photos were taken at the Wilferth family farm in Millersville.

Judy Wilferth, owner of Children's Bazaar, said the "people's favorite" photo was taken in front of the blue mosaic tiles at the Southeast Missourian office, 301 Broadway.

The man driving a convertible on page 7 is Wilferth's husband, Rock Wilferth.

"We needed a man driving that car, and he was the only man around. He's wearing a hat, trying to be incognito," Wilferth said.

A red pickup truck that belonged to Rock Wilferth's grandfather is featured in the catalog.

"It is really full of things from our community," she said.

To honor the children featured in the catalog, Children's Bazaar is sponsoring a "Stars of the Future" weekend Aug. 11 and 12. The models will be on hand to autograph catalogs for friends and family.

In addition, other young stars will be honored at the store, including Special Olympics athletes, baseball all-stars and standouts from soccer, swimming and other sports and activities.

During the same two days, young sales associates will be working in the store to assist customers.

On Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a percentage of the sales will be donated to the Special Olympics. Toys R Us donated 50 autographed baseballs to give away during the event.

Wilferth said, "Children are our future and the `Stars of the Future' event is one way to contribute to the self-esteem of these children," wilferth said.
