The Southeast Missourian asked people about renewed interest by citizens of Bollinger County to place the Bollinger County/Cape Girardeau County Lake Project on the ballot.
Betty Campbell, Cape Girardeau:
"It would be a real good idea. I've always been interested in fishing. It might give our young people something to do besides drive up and down the streets."
Walter Wilson, Cape Girardeau:
"If the people in the vicinity of the lake would agree to it and the traffic, I would agree to it. I would probably go fishing occasionally if there was a lake there."
Mike Kasten, Jackson:
"I like the idea of a lake, but I would hope they would change the existing law making the corrections that the lake committee had suggested before they put it to a vote. I think we would have construction for the next 40 years."
Glen Birk, Jackson:
"I would be in favor of a lake if it was designed as a flood-control project. There is a lot of good, rich fertile bottom land downstream from this proposed lake that has flood problems."
Eileen Meier, Jackson:
"It would be a boost economically to Bollinger County and the surrounding area, but I would not want to have a family farm there that would be under water. We must be careful that this is progress, and not just a whim of a few people."
