LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY PLANS CANDLELIGHT VIGIL ON AUG. 19
The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri will hold a candlelight vigil on Aug. 19. The vigil will be held in conjunction with "Homeless Animals Day" to remember the 12 to 17 million dogs and cats euthanized in the nation's pet shelters last year. Laura Walz at the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri says the numbers of euthanized pets can be reduced drastically by spaying and neutering dogs and cats.
The vigil will begin at 8 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau County Park North, shelter #1. It will feature readings by Charles Stucker, Cape Girardeau's animal control officer, Jhan White, shelter administrator, and Amy Jacquin of KFVS-TV.
The public is invited to attend.
