Army cadet Leonard A. Waldron has received the Marshall Award at the seminar held in the Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va.

The award, named in honor of General of the Army George C. Marshall, is presented annually to the most outstanding ROTC cadet at each university.

The cadet is a student at Wake Forrest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Waldron is the son of Kenneth L. and Norma N. Waldron of Jackson.

Brian R. Cook

Navy Airman Brian R. Cook, son of Allan R. and Glenda J. Cook of Burfordville, is currently halfway through a six-month overseas deployment with Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 141, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, which has included duty in the Adriatic Sea near Bosnia and the Persian Gulf near Iraq.

Cook is one of more than 5,500 Sailors and Marines aboard the aircraft carrier who have traveled approximately 20,000 miles since mid-March.

Cook first traveled to the Mediterranean Sea, where the ship stopped briefly in Haifa, Israel, before entering the Suez Canal en route to the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. While in the Red Sea, Jordan's King Hussein visited Cook's ship.

The 1991 graduate of Jackson Regional II High School joined the Navy in July 1993.
