Maggie Devaney and Olivia Harline, both of Cape Girardeau, have been selected as finalists in the 1995 Pre-Teen Missouri Scholarship and Recognition Program held today and tomorrow at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

It is a scholarship and recognition event involving girls, 7 to 12 years old and ranking in the state's top 10 percent academically. Additionally, the girls are invited who have been recognized publicly for their outstanding personal achievements, leadership abilities or creative talents. There are about 150 state finalists.

They are judged on academic achievement, volunteer service, school honors and activities, development of personal skills and abilities, general knowledgeability, communicative ability and on-stage review and acknowledgement of accomplishments.

The Pre-Teen Missouri will awarded more than $5,000 in educational bonds, prizes and awards.

Maggie, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael T. Devaney, is entered in the talent and speech competitions, both of which are separate from the scholarship event.

Olivia is the daughter of David and Kathryn Harline.
