JACKSON -- Owners of real estate in Cape Girardeau County owing delinquent taxes from 1991 and before have until today to pay the taxes to keep the property from being advertised for a tax sale next month, said County Collector Harold Kuehle.

State law requires collectors to sell property the fourth Monday in August each year if taxes are unpaid and delinquent.

The law also requires that the property be offered for sale and that the names of owners be published in a local newspaper. The first publication is scheduled for July 11.

Even though the property is advertised, it can be removed from the list to be sold if taxes are paid before the sale date.

Kuehle said he will offer property with delinquent taxes for sale on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at the front door of the county courthouse in Jackson.

Kuehle said anyone with questions about the status of their property can call his office in Jackson at 243-4476.
