Southeast Missouri State University's Kent Library has been named to the top 10 list for net lenders in the state of Missouri for 1993.

The list documents the total number of interlibrary loans made by libraries in Missouri, including public, college and university libraries, during 1993.

Kent Library lent 2,833 articles and 2,742 books to other libraries requesting these materials last year, said Maribeth Needels, Kent Library associate responsible for interlibrary loans.

This was the first year for Kent Library to be named to the list. Kent Library ranked ninth.

The libraries, ranked from top to bottom, are: University of Missouri-Columbia, St. Louis Public Library, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Mid-Continent Public Library, Washington University, University of Missouri-Rolla, Central Missouri State University, Northeast Missouri State University, Southeast Missouri State University and St. Louis University.

Needels said interlibrary loans -- institution to institution lending -- have mushroomed in recent years primarily due to technology upgrades.

She said Kent Library's participation in the On-line Computer Library Center Inc. in Dublin, Ohio, which is a computerized cataloging system for materials on file in numerous subscribing libraries around the world, has largely contributed to Kent Library's increased level of interlibrary loans.
