MENFRO -- Bois Brule levee repairs have reached approximately $11 million after three contracts for $4.5 million were awarded recently for final repairs to the breached levee near Menfro.

Almost $6.4 million already has been spent for initial repairs to the northern Perry County levee system, which was damaged by last year's Mississippi River flood.

The additional three contracts call for raising the main levee to pre-flood height, extending a landslide seepage berm behind the entire length of the new levee, and repairing wave-wash and scour damages to the remainder of the levee.

The Army Corps of Engineers hopes to finish the repairs by the end of the year.
