The Rev. Benjamin Hooks' speech at last month's River Heritage Regional Black Family Reunion will be rebroadcast Sunday on cable Channel 5, the local public access channel.

The presentation will air at 6 p.m. The taped speech and question-and-answer session lasts an hour and 11 minutes.

Hooks, who served as executive director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People from 1977 to 1993, spoke to a crowd of about 200 people at a prayer breakfast at the A.C. Brase Arena Building on Aug. 12.

This will mark the second broadcast of the Hooks' speech within the past month.

John Mehner, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce president, attended the breakfast.

Mehner said Hooks was "straightforward" in his speech. "The two things that stuck with me the most: He is sick of hearing that things haven't gotten any better and the other thing is that as a nation we should be a heck of a lot more thankful for what we have than we are."
