The Cape Girardeau Central High School Marching Band won first place overall as well as in its class at the "Champion of Champions" competition Saturday at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Twenty bands participated, 10 of them in the large-school category in which Cape Central competed.

Mike Shivelbine, president of the CHS Band Boosters, said Central's band won the Chancellor's Trophy as the top scoring band in the entire competition.

The band will participate Saturday in a 48-band competition at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
