With the holiday season quickly approaching the American Red Cross is asking the community for assistance in helping provide a touch of home for our Armed Forces personnel serving in Haiti.

The Red Cross is accepting seasonal decorations and other items for Thanksgiving and the December and January holidays. Requested items include blank holiday cards, hard candy, playing cards and other card games; other small games that don't require electricity or batteries; current magazines; paperbacks; puzzle books and seasonal decorations.

Financial donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of Parcel Post shipment.

Due to the hot, humid weather, please do not send chocolate or other perishable food items.

Due to the uncertainty of the length of the Persian Gulf operation, no request for holiday packages is being made at this time.

People wishing to make donations may bring them to the American Red Cross, 2430 Myra Drive, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contact the chapter at 335-9471 during the same days and hours if you have any questions.
